If you need us to, we can obtain a copy from the General Register Office on your behalf for:
£60 (2 working days) or
£35 (15 working days).
The Apostille Certificate and Stamp must be applied to the Birth Certificate itself.
Please note that we are NOT able to legalise photocopies of these documents, even if they have been signed by a UK solicitor or notary.
The Hague Convention Apostille Stamp can be supplied and issued on original Birth Certificates or Certified Copies issued by the General Registry Office (GRO) or local Registry Offices in the UK.
The Apostilles Group will make sure that your document is properly legalised for use across the world and Birth Certificates from England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland are included.
It is not possible to issue the apostille on a photocopy or scanned version of the document. Even if a birth certificate has been signed by a solicitor or Notary Public it is not acceptable for an apostille.
There are two versions of the UK Birth Certificate.
Short Version – A brief and simple form. It details the child’s name, date and place of birth.
Long Version – further details showing names of the child’s parents, etc.
We ALWAYS recommend sending the Long Version to receive an apostille certificate. However, if you send the Short Version, we will assume this is the Version you need to have apostilled.
We can only issue apostilles on original (signed by the Registrar) or General Register Office Certified Copies.
It IS possible to apostille a photocopy of a foreign Birth Certificate, so long as the copy has been certified by a UK Registered/Practicing Solicitor.
Typical requirements for an apostille certificate on a Birth Certificate are;
Proof of ID in relation to employment
Purchase of property
Registering a birth overseas
Execution of a will
Citizenship and many more.
